The most useful websites I have discovered on the HongKong Heritage Topic are 1)Discover HongKong and 2) Conserve and Revitalize HongKong Heritage . I found these links via Google when searching for ” HongKong Heritage”. These links provide more general information, which is why I found them more useful.

When I am researching the web, I realized there has been continuing public debates on preserving Hong Kong heritage such as important historical buildings or sites. On the one hand, some historical sites are being demolished such as the Queen’s Pier.( Queen’s Pier ); but on the other hand, there is also public effort to preserve heritage, such as having the HongKong heritage museum and HongKong annual heritage award. Personally, I think an interesting idea to explore HongKong heritage could be through examining the change in public’s attitude to traditional festivals over the years. HongKong has a number of unique local festivals, such as the annual dragonboat festival, Tin Hau festival, Cheung Chau Bun, etc.(Traditional Festivals ) The transformation and participation of these traditional festivals can be a good indication of whether HongKong people are preserving their cultural traditions in the face of rapid modernization, in addition to looking at the conservations of physical historical sites.

Interview

Saul Sugarman, a native of  Sacramento, California, is a fellow student at JMSC who is determined to make a great career in journalism.

Growing up in sunny California with lovely beaches around, Saul has a natural affinity with water. He enjoys all water sports, particularly water skiing and rowing.  Not quite the surfer type, Saul exudes more of an intellectual air. He studied political science and philosophy at university and admires the ancient philosophers such as Socrates and Aristotle. He has a wide range of interest from violin to ballroom dancing. He is also a very technologically evolved being who has strong interest in web design together with his passion for journalism.

Saul made the great jump across the ocean to China after university in hope of a fun and radical life experience. He taught English and freelanced for Chinese newspapers in the past year. Talking about China, Saul said that he loves the sense of safety and community that even a small city can offer but dislikes the censorship in China given his fairly liberal background.  Saul feels a bit more at home now in HongKong as he likes it being an older and more develped city with better law and administrative systems.

In the midst of the hot summer, we are expecting two more days of fine sunny weather ahead with temporature averaging 27-32 C till the weekend.  Then we will likely spend the weekend with some showers followed by two cloudy days at the beginning of next week. The temporature will stay stable throughout the week and the sun will come back to us again in the middle of next week.
